He is a huge coward he tries so hard to be more than just a coward but he’s only so successful

He can be incredibly inconsiderate of other’s feelings. It’s habit

He can also be incredibly fatherly and protective out of nowhere

Having a heart confuses him honestly he’s still adjusting to properly having emotions again

He’s extremely analytical it’s like engraved into his brain

GOSH HE GETS SUPER BLURTY WHEN NERVOUS THOUGH LIKE YOU’D EXPECT HIM TO BE CALM AND RESERVED BUT IF HE’S NERVOUS OR FLUSTERED HE’LL BLURT THINGS

He’s absolutely terrified of Xehanort and all his forms (including Xigbar)

He doesn’t fight much but he obviously fights with his shield and with ice and I imagine he can use a lot of general magic too though he has trouble with fire

He’s extremely defensive though and prefers to study and then attack

But really he just wants to make sure Riku’s never hurt again—at least not emotionally he’s probably given up on Riku being hurt physically. Though he will MURDER a man should he find anyone treating him like Larxene did. or should Larxene threaten Riku. Tho tbh he’d murder Larxene anyway, regardless of whether or not she’d hurt Riku

Also I mean he’s staying in my universe JUST SO HE CAN edit Riku’s data so he can fix it up and get it in the right Code

THIS IS SO DUMB AND PROBABLY A LITTLE MEAN BUT HE’S SO INVESTED IN NAMINE AND IT’S LARGELY FOR RIKU’S SAKE??

Because he understands literally better than anyone else does—including Riku himself—that Riku is so dependent on Namine and if it is in his power to help Namine he will do it

Of course he cares about Namine as a person very much

They get along because they both fuss over Riku

And there’s little to not like about Namine

Joseph

HE’S NOT SURE WHAT TO THINK OF THIS CHILD Joseph is so upbeat and it throws Vexen off he’s not used to working with really upbeat people like he loves children but he didn’t work excessively with them you feel??

Maybe he did idk but

Joseph looks like Ienzo and subconsciously reminds him of Ienzo and he knows that Joseph is not Ienzo but the similarities still throw him off

It’s hard to notice because Joseph acts literally nothing like Ienzo but when ne does Vexen literally has flashbacks and has to sit down

Also he’s kinda baffled how this kid could?? care about him?? so much??? He thought everyone here hated him but then there’s Joseph

Ienzo

Okay so the thing is Ienzo is very much like a son to him and I won’t even try to beat around the bush with that

He cares for Ienzo like he cares for a son, and it was him more than it was anyone else who raised Ienzo in Radiant Garden (though all of Ansem the Wise’s apprentices did contribute).

So obviously. There is that.

And like!! Ienzo cares about him back!! obviously!!! But it’s not like intensely they just care mutually for each other and if CoM (along with KH2FM) is any clue Ienzo’s gotten old enough that ?? idk it doesn’t  feel quite like Ienzo treats him like a father if anything he’s just as sarcastic and rude with Vexen as with anyone else

He gets mildly frustrated but that’s just who he is it’s nothing against Ienzo personally

((Perhaps that’s why he usually takes the same treatment from Riku just as quietly?? Though he also deserves it from Riku, or thinks he does, or understands, or ~whatever~))

Yeah I’m not sure how exactly to synthesize this into words but even in what I remember of Ienzo/Vexen interacting in ATP and during Can’t Escape’s Ienzo sequence

I don’t get father/son vibes really I get

If anything I get “good friends talking to each other” vibes

PLUS AN INTERESTING NOTE!!! Vexen is always like slightly over emotional and Ienzo is a rock to steady him and bring him back down in a lot of ways

And Vexen is very grateful for that
